We compare the upcoming BlackBerry Z10 with Samsung's Galaxy S3

BlackBerry 10

With the BlackBerry Z10 finally official, the device is getting plenty of love from many around the tech community. The Z10 is fast and it packs extremely good specs -- it even has support for 4G LTE.

While there’s no escaping the fact that the BlackBerry 10-powered Z10 is likely a pretty good smartphone, we wanted to see how it stacks up to other flagships, especially the Samsung Galaxy S3. Is it better? Is the BlackBerry 10 up to par? Does it have a better build quality/design?

Read on below for the full comparison!

Design

The design of the Galaxy S3 and Z10 couldn't be any different, but let's start with the Z10 first. The Z10 is super thin and extremely light. It is really all display in a single uni-body and not much bezel. It's dark and very slick. The Z10 really looks quite nice.

The Samsung Galaxy S3, meanwhile, features a light, plastic frame. It has a considerable amount of bezel and is extremely light. Honestly, it looks very cheap.

Winner - BlackBerry Z10. The Z10 looks more mature than the Galaxy S3 and black is always sexier than blue. The Z10 industrial design simply roks.

Specs

Samsung's Galaxy S3 runs on a quad-core Exynos processor. This cortex A15 is a huge deal and blows almost everything out of the water besides the A6x CPU found on the new iPad. The device also has a great GPU, which delivers solid gaming performance.

The S3 comes in two flavors: 16GB and 32GB. The smartphone also offers support for removable memory.

The Z10, on the other hand, is powered by a dual-core CPU. It's a top-of-the-line processor that offers superb gaming performance and the device rocks 2GB RAM. It's without a doubt a beast.

Like the Galaxy S3, the Z10 also features 16GB and 32GB variants. At this point, it's unclear whether or not the Z10 will offer removable storage, but I think it's probably unlikely.

Winner – Tie!

Screen

The Samsung Galaxy S3 features a large 4.8-inch HD AMOLED display, which is extremely bright. In terms of brightness it blows away all displays on the market. The Z10 offers a 4.2-inch 1280 by 768 LCD display.

From what we can tell, the screen on the Galaxy S3 is simply better than the one found on the Z10. Color reproduction looks better too.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S3

Software

The S3  is powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, Google's awesome Jelly Bean OS. Similar to Android 4.0, the new OS offers Google Now, a better camera app, and awesome expandable notifications.

The Z10 has BlackBerry 10 - RIM's all new mobile OS. At this point, it is a little hard to tell about BlackBerry 10, but I don't expect it to be as mature as Android. We'll really have to wait and see on this - sorry folks.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S3, for now.

And the overall winner is...

Samsung Galaxy S3

The devices are, in most areas, evenly matched, but the Galaxy S3 is just more mature and likely has better software. We'll know more, of course, when we fully review the Z10.

Stay tuned, friends.
